Everybody lies sometimes, don’t they?
WRITTEN IN 1993 BY DAVID WILLIAMSON, BRILLIANT LIES IS A QUINTESSENTIALLY AUSTRALIAN PLAY EXAMINING the issues around SEXUAL DISCRIMINATION IN THE WORKPLACE.
SUSY (SAMANTHA CONGDON) AND HER SISTER KATY (LENKA SCHIRMer) ARE STRUGGLING TO FIND WORK. AFTER EACH LOSES THEIR JOB AS A RESULT OF DISCRIMINATION, WHO IS IT THAT STANDS UP TO DEFEND THEIR RIGHTS?
IS IT SELF-PROCLAIMED MILITANT FEMINIST KATY, OR PARTY GIRL, SUSY?
AS DAD (CRAIG SHEPPARD) AND PAUL (ETHAN HARRISON) STRUGGLE TO UNDERSTAND, THE ladies ENLIST THE HELP OF MARION (CHRISTINE DUFF) FROM THE NEWLY ESTABLISHED ANTI-DISCRIMINATION BOARD.
TOGETHER THEY CONFRONT GARY (SHARN TRELoaR) AND VINCE (JAMIE B MORGAN) AND REALISE THAT TO SURVIVE THE 90S, YOU HAVE TO LEARN TO TELL BRILLIANT LIES.
A challenging play, Brilliant Lies is also brilliant theatre.
